Don't know if it can be done DIY, but £700 is what I was quoted at the solicitors yesterday, that includes registration.
It all changed last October when I could have had the same done for under £200.0 -
The old 'enduring power of attorney' was replaced with 'Lasting powers of Attorney' on 1st october 2007. And, yes, you can set them up yourself. You will need to cross every 't' and dot every 'i' for it to become effective. You have been warned.

The LPA costs £150 to register. The rest would be solicitor's fees.
Take a look on their website. If you want a basic Property & Affairs LPA, this can be done DIY with no problem. As Willman says, it has to be done right but they come with copious notes to help and the Public Guardian's Office are very helpful if you have a query.
I would think you would have to tread very carefully if you also went for a Personal Welfare LPA but, again, have a look at what's on the website and see how you feel about doing it.0 -
Many many thanks, very helpful indeed and am really indebted to you both, will get cracking and have a look at the website recommended. Regards oap:T0

Hello oap, I set up an enduring pwer of attorney in respect of my Aunt who is some 96 years old.
As said above, you have to 'dot the i's and cross the t's' , but there are copious notes to help you. Just take your time with the forms, read the notes and you should be ok.
Good luck.

a) still has 'mental capacity'; and
b) may be deteriorating
you definitely ought to get a Lasting Power of Attorney before it's too late.0 -

Would your mum be able to understand what POA means ? If she can't as it's gently and carefully explained to her she won't be able to give her permission......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
