Hi, I wasn't really sure where to post this but thought some of you old-stylers may be interested in this -especially those with a few old style knitting and sewing skills. I saw the idea on a USA website http://nikkishell.typepad.com/wardroberefashion/. The idea is that rather than buy new clothes you sort out what you have already got, then repair or re-fashion them into new/wearable stuff and take a 'pledge' to do so for a number of months. It's really inspired me! I've finally got around to sorting out my wardrobe!! Found stuff I'd forgotten about. Mended/shortened several things to make them wearable. Started to finish off old sewing/knitting projects. The Wardrobe re-fashion site has a sign up 'pledge' to buy nothing new, and make/re-fashion and you can sign up for how ever many months you want. The next sign up is in mid-Feb. Loads of great ideas on the site and blogs/pics of people's craft and re-makes. Good links to other fashion/craft sites too.

I love this idea too. I've just got a sewing machine and I love customising clothes anyway, so I can sense a fun project coming on.0

I have some bits and pieces I have been collecting to make something with. Don't seem to be able to get started, too many other things in the way at the moment,"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Clothes Old Style
Clothes Challenge
Charity clothes shops
I need tips on how to customise my clothes
And a simple search on clothes gives all sorts of threads that can help you keep the clothes you have in good nick.

Brilliant idea and thanks for the links squeaky.
I remember doing something like that many years ago then sort of got out of the habit.
I'm a great charity clothes shopped. I know sometimes they can be a bit more money than something brand new in primark but we don't have any clothes shops in town........nearest stores are 20 miles away and I find the charity shops much more fun. You never know quite what's in there, they don't follow whatever fashion/trend might be the vogue and I've had some really good buys from them. In fact don't know when I last bought anything new, apart from undies.Mary
I'm creative -you can't expect me to be neat too !

I like the sound of this. I've been considering making all my clothes this year rather than buying (will mean I need a crash course in knitting before Winter comes round again though...!) after a sewing thread (sorry!) that was posted last weekend on here.
Maybe this is a sign...Only when the last tree has died and the last river has been poisoned and the last fish has been caught will we realise that we cannot eat money.0 -
I made a New Year's resolution not to buy any new clothes this year as I have too many! Managed to get through January without buying anything new.DFW Nerd Club No.785 = Proud to be dealing with my debt!0

Same here Chezza71! I've also managed to get rid of quite a few; don't think I'd be too good at the sewing/alteration bit though!0

That's what all the books and websites are for - creative [STRIKE]copying[/STRIKE] er... inspiration
Sometimes the most effective changes that you can make are very simple.
Have a browse and you might well find a few things that you can do, and yes, for sure, pick easy ones to start with. For preference ones that are easy to undo if they don't come out right and won't ruin the clothes. Not to mention having a practice on something that is headed for the rag bin anywayHi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there.
