Help with car advice on px!

Hi

Need some advice, just been given a car by my dad as they are moving abroad. Its a Citroen C5 exclusive, 2002, personal plates, 45k, excellent condition but its far too big for me. Rang the citroen dealer and they said they would do a straight swap for a C3 with the same mileage and year. It seems like a bad deal as mine cost over £20k new and has leather seats and built in sat nav etc. I dont know much about cars, so has anyone got any suggestions? I assume to px its best going with a main dealer as I will get a better deal.

Please help! Thanks

Also same for car they are willing to give you,
    screen price
    C3 petrol.diesel
    gearbox
    exact model, mileage, reg plate

You can keep your dad's private plate, just ask DVLA to revert it to a standard plate there's a fee of about £25

Big luxury cars depreciate in value a great deal more than wee little hatchbacks, at your age 5 years old it's not going to be worth anything resembling 20k or anything near what you might think. I'd value it approx about £3K without knowing much more about it it's the best I can do.

not too bad a deal really as Wig says the bigger models lose money faster,
as long as the C3 is diesel, low mileage, service history,

again as wig says keep the private plate, and ask the dealer to throw in a sat nav system, full service incl cambelt,a warranty, years tax and a full tank of fuel

you may get all or some of the above to make the deal sweeter,

as I said it's not a bad deal, also consider the C5 is no good for you and to try and shop around to make a couple of hundred extra could mean you losing out in the long run

    From wisebuyers

    New: £22,000
    Ret: £5,250
    Good (private) £4,250
    Part Exchange £3,900
    Trade £3,700

You might consider yourself better off, selling privately, and buying privately, do some research. And don't forget to reclaim your tax disc if you do p/x it.

How much would the private plate be worth if you sold it separately?

Are you sure a px is the best option? How much would you get if you sold the car separately? Then what could you buy with that money?- And you wouldn't be limited to a Citroen from a Citroen dealer!
    .....

  • Sell privately and get more for it and find the next owner yourself. As most os the trade turn theier noses up at them. I do, even tho they are great for hammering down the motorways!

as davetrousers said that if giving to a citroen dealer your going to most likely only be limited to a citroen (unless you really want a citroen)
so if you were to sell privately, you'll get more money for it, as well as being able to spend the money on what you want
and if you want to, to purchase the car you want

It looks a terrible deal to me.

Citreon used values are terrible as a result of the big discounts they offer on new cars. The C3 is a small car that was discounted like crazy new.

Even if the C5 is only worth 3,900 I can't imagine any model of 5 year old C3 being worth more than 3,000 on a very good day indeed.

And, watch out, the C3 has a terrible reputation for poor reliability and rust.

My advice, sell the C5 privately and chose a better car and one you want !
