Van Insurance PAY AS YOU GO!!!

Hi,

This is my first post so bear with me!

As this site is all about saving money i hope this is of some use to people. I have a van as my second vehicle which I use to renovate my buy to let properties, take rubbish to tip, collect goods bought from ebay etc. Now obviously as I have a car and there are gaps between me buying and renovating houses I dont use the van all the time. Whilst searching for van insurance quotes using Martin's system I noticed that there are some providers who will provide cover on a PAY AS YOU GO basis. For me this is great as if I only use the van for 2 months at a time, as long as I inform the insurance company that I dont want the insurance to continue i only pay for the 2 months I have used, should I want to start it up again in the next 8 months then the premiums are guaranteed, all i need to do is "re activate" the policy and the payments.

Yes, this is slightly more expensive per month than if I had a straight annual policy but as i will only use the van for probably 6 months of the year the savings are huge in my circumstances.

Also the van is insured for carriage of own goods and SDP so no need to worry about not having the right cover for what you are using it for.

Obviouslly worth pointing out that whilst the vehicle is uninsured if it's pinched you're not covered but as mine is in my locked driveway I am confident of it's safety.

If you use your van constantly then this isn't for you as your monthly premiums will be more but if like me you use it infrequently as a second vehicle this could save you from having to pay a fortune in insurance when you're not even using the van.

The company I used is E van insurance, but Norwich union and others also offer similar schemes.

Please let me know if this has helped you.

Cheers
