Insurance for performance cars

I'm looking at buying a powerful car sometime this year (group 16).

I have been looking at insurance quotes using the usual avenues such as Insuresupermarket etc.

Someone told me that a specialist insurer might work out a lot cheaper, does anyone have any experience of using these, and do you have any recommendations on companies to use?

I am 27 with licence held for 10 yrs.

Companies that should be able to sort you out a decent quote include

    https://www.Adrian Flux.com
    https://www.FootmanJames.co.uk
    Chris Knott - 0800 917 2274 http://www.ckinsurance.co.uk/index.htm
    Herts Insurance Consultants - 0845 1290290
    https://www.greenlight-insurance.co.uk
    https://www.performancedirect.co.uk

Also speak to the owners club of the car your buying as often they will have discounted rates with an insurance company, although it will probably be with one of the above companies.

    Hope that helps

Try and find the owners club online. Most performance cars have an online message board. Have a browse through the message board and search for insurance as its an often popular topic.

Thanks for the great advice everyone - I will check out the suggested insurers and also have a root for owners clubs on the web.

The car I'm looking at is the Focus RS.

Im with Adrian Flux, very good they are too, especially with where mods are concerned. £480 on a group 20 car :j

Others to try are A-Plan, AON and Sky Insurance who are all very very good, or try looking for adverts in any Jap Car mag.
Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
