Hi
There was a feature about 'TVCatchup' on the radio today (Radio 4 'You and yours').
It's an online video recorder.
So far, it's legal to use this system because it's only being used for 'timeshifting'. You can't use it to watch or record live TV.
The TV companies are looking into it. If they can get a ruling that it's not legal then they will instruct the website hosting company to have it stopped.
In TVCatchup's Terms and Conditions you must confirm that you hold a current TV license.
You can hear the full radio programme using BBC's 'Listen Again'.
The excerpt's here:-http://myfreefilehosting.com/f/f6f12a7398_8.84MB
This is TVCatchup's website:-http://www.tvcatchup.com/

Pretty certain that it's not a legal grey area, and that since they're distributing the content without a license, it's as illegal as anything else of its sort.

Both those torrent sites you linked to (slap on the wrist time...) are both pretty illegal too.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

That was somebody else, they've been removed.

    1. Viewers (in the UK) are required to be in possession of a TV licence for viewing programmes as they are being broadcast. It is not our job to police such issues, neither do we hold any personal information that would enable anyone else to do so.

You can guarantee it won't be up for long. There's nothing on the site to filter out non UK viewers and they don't have the permission of the tv companies.

So far its a great site, useful for Uni Daughter if other housemates don't want to watch the obligatory Neighbours. Does not actually do catchup yet but will be very good when it does. At least I'll be able to see Andromeda without pixellation and still let the OH see whatever she wants.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.
