Addition of VAT at the checkout?

I bought an item on eBay and when I was about to pay through PayPal at the final step it gives me an added VAT to the total amount!

This doen't appear on the bidding page. Looking back now if you clinck on the Pricing option there is a mention about 17.5% VAT

I am not keen to pay this as this doesnt appear in the listing either. Can I refuse to pay for the item/cancel it?

What are my 'rights'.........I am not a regular eBayer and so I dont know these tricky loops...........Please help:rolleyes:

You can ask the seller with mutually agree to cancel, but as long as it was mentioned in the description, they are currently perfectly entitled to do that as long as they are VAT registered.

As the seller is obviously a business, and therefore in compliance with the Distance Selling Regulations, you may well be able to argue your statutory 7 day cooling off period though.
