my eldest daughter is due to start university in september 2008 (assuming exams results go her way).
i now the loan application forms are due to come out in march, but when would be the best time for her to open a student bank account?

Late July/August is the best time to apply. The banks will start doing all their offers around this time.
You can just put the details of an existing bank account on the loan form for the time being then its just a few clicks to change it online.0 -
ok, she does have a simple account with a bank, but no debit card or cheque book, but does have part time job wages paid in,smile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

I don`t think that you can`t get a student account without the letter offering the place from the university0

I can't really remember what I did when I opened mine.
Does your daughter currently have a bank account? I think my bank just sent me a letter asking whether I was going to University or not, I replied and they sent me loads of literature about their account which I went on to open.
I think the banks usually surmise this when they ask what you're doing after you leave school, if you say you're doing A levels and so forth, they usually chase you up just after you finish college and send you a letter. Can I afford to buy? Mortgage Affordability Calculator

I think that is correct. When I opened my student account they wanted proof of acceptance, which I think was the UCAS letter saying I had a place.
Usually best to get your application in around late June/July to get the best offers and to give them time to set it up.0
