I phoned Primus to join the Saver2 option.
At the end of the conversation they said that my line rental will be now paid through them and I will no longer pay BT for the line rental.
I was under the impression that with the Saver2 you kept the BT line rental and just routed the calls through Primus.
Advice please.

Sounds like they are, YES
If you have only just contacted them you have time to get the package you require.
You have to be very specific in what you ask for.
I told them I wanted to test the water in a half way fashion before transfering line over, not that I had any intention of doing so
Don't tell them you will only be using it for the free evening weekends calls,Benefits of Saver Option 2- FREE calls at evenings and weekends to UK landlines.
- Great savings on international calls.
- Keep existing BT phone number and services.
- No access codes or equipment required.
- Great UK landline, mobile and international rates
- Free fully itemised monthly statements.
- e-billing.

As BritBrat says, they appear to have signed you up for their line rental too.I phoned Primus to join the Saver2 option.

YOU DO NOT WANT THAT.
What you want is Primus Saver Option 2 CPS (Carrier PreSelect) service - i.e. leaving line rental with BT.
Get back onto them and get them to correct your order.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
When I signed up to Primus via the freephone number they did the same to me. They read out over the phone line rental as well. I immediately corrected them . As previously said you need to contact them (suggest confirm also in writing), emphazise Primus Saver Option 2 CPS (Carrier PreSelect) , NOT line rental ,keep that with BT.
While your at it ask them for free Mobile Penny Option too as an add on.

I said to my OH when Martin mentioned it in his program on Wednesday that people would be signing up to the wrong deal, Martin only made a passing comment and there was not enough detail.0
