Would I be entitled to anything else?

Hi peeps,

Being a stay at home mum is something I would love to be. Financially, I am the main breadwinner though which makes this just a pipe dream. However my husband hopes to get into the police force but, failing to get in first time, has to wait till November to reapply (intake most probably March). This could change things.

I would be due to go back to work in February (am currently 36 weeks pg with my 2nd) and would have to do 3 months minimum. After this time, if I had my way I would leave my job which I don't particularly love anyway. Looking at my finances I still don't know if we could do it (if we didn't have a couple of certain debts then it woud be a different picture but we do).

So being totally naive when it comes to benefits etc, I know I would have my Family Allowance and Tax Credits but would I be entitled to any other benefits?

TIA

xxx

Child Benefit for a 2nd child is around £11 a week.

Tax credits depends on your income and how many children you have (and also if there are any disabilities in family and childcare costs). Assuming you qualify for tax credits and from your post it sounds like you do there is an additional baby element of tax credits. This gives you an extra £545p.a -roughly an extra £10 a week up until babys 1st birthday.

Has your maternity pay been enhanced? Is this why you need to return for 3 months?

Perscriptions and dental work are also free until babys 1st birthday.

I don't think it's the whole amount just the bit over and above what you would have received as statuory.

BTW forgot to add on my last post there's a website called https://www.entitledto.co.uk that would help with what your tax credit figure would be if you wanted to have a play with figures.

Edit -sorry I missed a bit on the website I gave and if you've clicked on I've sent you somewhere else -oops soz -changed it now
