Help - Car Insurance

Martin, can you help. My son was involved in an accident last year. Not his fault, the other party was prosecuted by police. His car was a rightoff and he and his girlfriend sustained injuries. He changed his insurance company when the renewal time came and the new insurance company will not acknowledge his no claim bonus because the company that he was last with will not send details, saying the accident is pending. The broker who originally represented his car insurance say that until they receive money from the insurance company who represent the lady who hit him he has to pay extra. In the meantime, he has to pay another £200 immediately to be covered, which he has not got. Have you any suggestions. I have tried getting through to CAB, I have tried to find an ombudsman telephone number and FSA are busy too. Any ideas.

I dont see how you can be annoyed- until your sons insurance company gets its money that its paid out back, it will count as a claim against him. Accordingly, he will then have to pay higher premiums.
Do you know what the hold up is at the moment? For example, is the car settlement still to be agreed?0 -
Sorry maggie but this is absolutely standard.
Until it is sorted and money has been recovered then it will count against your son.
You won't get anywhere with the FSA or CAB, they'll tell you the same.
Can he stay with the same insurer?
The same insurer might not charge him the extra if they know the claim is likely to be settled.
If he is driving a car then he really ought to start saving for unexpected eventualities (like breakdown or repairs). In the meantime could anyone in the family lend him the money? If not then he should be able to put the premium on monthly terms (although it may not be the cheapest way to borrow money).0 -
Thanks lisyloo, your answer is helpful. I was not quite sure if this is normal procedure or not. I will have to lend him the money until it gets sorted.0
