Credit Rating Help

Hi everyone,
hope someone can help me with this. My wife just got her credit and as expected everything is fine in recent years, problem is back when we were younger and didn't really understand the impact of getting a bad credit rating she missed numerous payment on credit cards and store cards. We settled all the debts around May 2002 she defaulted on a few but never went as far as CCJ. Anyway question is how long will these debts effect her credit rating, she now has one very small credit card (£200) which is paid on time plus two cat's she also pays on time. So should her credit score now be repaired.
