Insurance claim help

Hi, i was wondering if you can help, i went to ireland fishing last october and took all my rods in a large airline approved holder. After a night session i was packing my rods away back into the container by the side of the road. As i was putting away other gear my rods got knocked over and a car went over the top of them. All my rods got damaged beyond repair.
I made a claim to my travel insurance and took my rods to my local tackle shop to get confirmation that the rods were broken and a cost of replacement. The insurance company have been taking forever to process the claim now 16weeks. When i phoned them up yesterday i was told that they need reciepts for all the rods. The problem i have is i dont have all the reciepts, 2 of the rods were a birthday/xmas present a couple of years back, 2 others was bought from ebay. The insurance company have said they will not pay out for any of the rods. What can i do? I have the rods that are clearly broken is that not proof enough?

do you still have the paypal receipt off ebay.. there may still be a record there or in your feedback system. Also you could ask the friends that purchased them to tell you what store, the sotre can thenm reproduce a receipt for you. i have done it before with a watch. i lost the receipt, on year later they re produced it

On household insurance policies, cover is generally new for old so that would give you a new rod.
I'm not an expert on travel insurance but I have an idea that many of them are written on what is called an indemnity basis - this means you only get price paid less reductions for wear and tear.
Did you have an extension on your household policy for items away from the home? Might be worth claiming on that instead.
Edit - Just had a look on here - http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1;jsessionid=NXGMZYSLQGSBIFB2IGVURWQUHRA0UQ2K?catId=19300208&mediaId=19500187&keyname=ti_covertypes
and at the full wording here
http://www.postoffice.co.uk/portal/po/content1?catId=19300208&mediaId=19500189&keyname=ti_terms Part C section 8.
They do mention deductions for wear, tear and depreciation so it is NOT new for old cover.
There is another kick in the fragile parts as well - limit of £300 per person per claim.0 -

This is why i hate travel insurance, they just rip you off. All Risks/Personal Belongings on household policies is much better cover.0 -
Doesn't help now but you can get specialist cover for fishing tackle. Found this firm http://www.eandl.co.uk/fishing-insurance/ - might be worth checking.0
