Cancelled Barclaycard

Well, I have just cancelled my Barclaycard over the phone. My 0% deal ended at the start of August. The balance went onto my new RBS card earlier this week, and I have just checked online to check my old balance was zero.

After spending almost ten minutes on hold, I got through to an adviser and told her I'd like to cancel my card. After a few brief security questions, I was then asked why I wanted to cancel it. I replied that I'd cleared the balance and had no intention of using it again. She then told me (very polite throughout) that a confirming letter would be in the post.

That was far easier than I thought it would be :D

cheers

I was going to do the same but the woman at Barclaycard was quite persistent that I keep it as I might get 0% offers in the future.

Can it be a bad thing to have this card with nothing on it? Or should I cancel it anyway?

    Hi Dave,

I have read these boards a lot over the last few months, and there are a lot of people who think unused cards should be cancelled.

It is my understanding that the amount of "existing available credit" is a consideration for card lenders, and may determine whether you get accepted for 0% deals in the future.

    cheers

I would cancel it because any new 0% deals will be for new customers.
Just waiting for mine to be cleared by BT and I`ll be cancelling.

I would keep them to. You have to be working plus 16 hours to apply for a card unless its a joint application with your partner. My partner has a bad credit history so wouldnt help me getting a credit card.

Now I am at home with my baby, its handy to have my cards which I had from my working days.

You never know when youd need them!

I would cancel. I have just cancelled my card and again purely for the reasons already expressed. Besides if you are not going to use it it removes the temptation to spend on it in the future.

I've cancelled. Thanks for your advice everyone. If I wanted one of their offers I'm sure I could easily open a new account in a years time anyway. Especially as they offer new customers with 0% BT's
