    Time To Switch

Five of six big providers have now hiked up prices. The only major player which hasn't hiked its prices yet is Scottish & Southern, which has frozen tariff increases until 30 March, and is likely to up prices soon after this freeze ends.

Yet rather than waiting another 6 weeks, better to compare, switch and save now. But if Scottish & Southern or one of its brands - Atlantic, SWALEC, Scottish Hydro and Southern Electric - comes out as the cheapest, avoid it as it’s a false winner, with price rises still due.

    "Ebico" :huh:

IF they have YET to put UP their prices .............. be cautious?

Just read this off this site:

Warning! EBICo (Equigas & Equipower) is still likely to raise its prices soon, so if this comes out your cheapest, it's worth considering going to the next best.
  • Found the answer I was looking for ........... on the Scottish Power website (of all places!) who are my (NEW) current suppliers.

On logging in to my account for the first time, a welcome page came up with the following message:-

    RE: Price Increases

You may have heard in the press that wholesale energy prices have risen considerably in recent months, Scottish Power has tried to absorb these costs for as long as possible to minimise the effect on you. However we have recently had to review our position and on 2nd February 2008 our energy prices increased.

Click here to view our new prices. If you are affected by this price increase your new prices will appear on page 2 of your next bill. The price shown exclude VAT - for VAT inclusive prices go to www.scottishpower.co.uk

You have the right to end your contract with us and have 10 working day to do so. If you do that, and the transfer of supplier process begins no later than 15 working days after you inform us, the new prices will not apply.

So, as THEY have increased the price I was quoted (originaly) when I switched back in December, signing up to their service, I now have the definitive answer I was looking for:-

I can now switch again, without fear of any 'Contractual Obligation' on my part (or FEE) and I can now get a second Cash Back by moving back to my OLD supplier who just happen to come out top on my latest Price Comparisons ............. RESULT!

Looks like it is sometimes WISER to switch (when you can & have time) even when you are advised not too, as with this second switch I will have made (back) £100.00, which is around 22% of my annual fuel bill!!!

[YES I know my bill is low, but you too could have a bill this low, if you double insulate your home, use lower energy appliances & lights and just simply switched things OFF when not in use?

How long does it take to heat YOUR home? With my current Central Heating it only takes around 10 minutes to heat the whole house, which then lasts for at least 4-5 hours ............ COSY!]:rotfl:

  • Ken,

Thanks for the tip about Quidco, used them in the end and very easy to join.

Just checked my account with them, thought it was £55.00 when switching to E-on, but it turned out to be £70!!!

So with the £5 they take off for Yearly Admin fees, I'm quid's in

    Result
