Go for the aqua board in the (wet) shower area, a good investment, if you use ordinary plasterboard the tiles will eventually let the water in and then alll you tiles will fall off one by one, misery.0

A job done properly will last for years. A job done poorly will fall apart in no time, including aquaboard.

Could you please tell me exactly when they start falling off as mine are 24 years old now and I am getting worried

In answer to another post, yes they are about £12 a panel at Wickes, B&Q etc. Other places use different makes but the price is similar IIRC.
Other points, a tiled wall isn't waterproof (again IIRC at least not as far as British Standards are concerned) and correctly installed Aquapanel will take more weight than plasterboard.A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.

i would always use aquapanel in the bathroom if possible.
would only use plain old PB if the budget is really that tight.Get some gorm.0 -

It's just my opinion based on past events that plasterboard in wet areas is not the way to go and the extra cost for a couple of yards of aquapanel is worth paying for.
I would say that any builder worth his salt would now not build a wet shower area in plasterboard.
I hope your tiles stay stuck for many years to come molrat, but I believe you have been very lucky.0 -
They tend to start falling off at about 24 years 1 month

I have 3 showers no problems, all plasterboarded and the house is 35 years old, it does not matter what you use but if the tiling is crap then sit and watch the tiles fall off.

I've retro fitted a shower into my old bathroom, I didn't change the existing plasterboard partition when I tiled up it (originally a temporary measure with very cheap tiles) and then I retiled when I modernised.
Both times I've not had problems with the tiles staying on the plasterboard, but they were only up for 3 years (temporary) and 18 months (current tile scheme).
I'm currently adding an upstairs shower room to our house, so I'm building a new partition wall.
I think it's worth putting in the aquapanel in the new partition wall, but my only issue is the ammount of space I have: 12.5mm off the 700mm shower, I'm half tempted to go for exterior ply (WBP).
Aquapanel and hold breath or marine ply and cross my fingers......
I guess I'm going to slim down a bit and use the aquapanel!

I hate mucky grout so when we were told to use aquapanel we asked our plumber for an alternative. He suggested a solid white gloss panel instead of tiles.
I've found the Formica one we went for which looked great and went straight onto the battens which created the false wall that covered up the water pipes.0
