  • UPDATE....just got off the phone from payplan, they told me because i inputted details on their website, it needs to be their web team who helps me out, and they are unable to transfer me for some reason. they also advised me not to cancel the agreement with gp until i'd spoken to one of their advisors. so at the moment i'm stuck in limbo

Phone the CCCS, you may be able to get more help today.

Can you not offer your loans and credit card companies token payments just now and cancel GP? I am sure someone in the know will answer that for me, You might miss the 14 day deadline otherwise.

Call now 0800 138 1111 call free CCCS
    Monday to Friday 8am-8pm*

Call them now, I am concerned that you are going to miss the 14 day deadline and that they will take the first payment which will not go towards your debt, the DFW board is slow just now, everyone must be having their tea.

I would second the recommendation for CCCS. I've seen this from the other side, working in collections, and I really don't think that those who charge do anything extra for you.

Did you get anywhere with the council tax?

    http://www.westlothian.gov.uk/917/701/612/613

"Council tax is calculated on the assumption that there are two adults living in the property. If only one person lives there, you are entitled to a 25% discount. If the property is not anyone's main residence or is a holiday home, you may get up to 50% discount. Full-time students are entitled to 100% council tax discount. There are also discounts for various disabilities."

    fingers crossed!

*edit* - just spotted that you can actually apply for your discount to be backdated .............
  • hi everyone, spoke to cccs, who advised to contact gp asap and cancel it, which was pretty much what you had all said anyway, also they would make an appointment with a counsellor, but there would be approx a 2-3 week delay for that to be made, i was driving at the time, so said i'd call back as i couldnt write anything down.

since then payplan called me back and took some basic details and seconded the advise to call gp and cancel, also going to call on tuesday afternoon to go through a more in depth soa with a view to setting up a plan.

after this call i called gp, but it rung and rung and rung and rung some more before they told me the lines were closed. so planning to get up early tomorrow and do it then, i am still 5 days away from the 14 day deadline so shouldnt be a problem.

as far as council tax is concerned, because my flat mate is not a student, the woman i spoke to wasnt sure what effect this would have, but said she would send a form out for me to have my uni fill in so making progress there too.

I'm pleased you have had the advice from CCCS and Paypal to cancel GP, phone your bank as well or go online after you speak to GP and cancel the Direct debit/Standing order.

  • hi folks, just spoke to gp, cancelled my dmp

they said that it will take approx 3 days for the money i paid to go back in to my account.

i also had an interesting phone call from BoS demanding payment. they said they would freeze it for 10 days and call back then. i told them i wasnt going to have demands made on me at 830am on a saturday morning, when it is illegal for them them to be contacting me at that time! the lad didnt have a clue what to say! :T
