How Long??

Hi,

Had my IB "Meeting" with a finance person and then an advisor at my local Jobcenter on Monday, told them we where struggling as only received £133 last month and have mortgage etc to pay but they where unable to advise when I might receive benefits, can anyone please advise from their experience how long it takes for the money to start coming in from the first interview??

Cheers
Pete

yeah the inland revenue have been excellent, everything happened straight away with them and payment came within days, and there was me on Monday saying to the missus how well it had all been handled, phoned 0845 number they filled everything in over the phone, forms came, was "greeted" at the job centre and told to take the lift up to 1st floor was then "greeted" again name ticked off sheet forms removed and told to take a seat in a very swish open plan office, staff delt with me quickly and effecienlty......................!!!

Looks like its all gone `orribly wrong now which number do you ring to "badger" them on?

try the number that you phoned originally for an appt?in our area different offices deal with different things now so i phone one for inc.supp, another for incap.ben.ours is a jobcentreplus area.
or you could call into the jobcentre ours has freephones to phone tax credits,jobs,careers,dla,incap.ben. and inc.supp.perhaps yours does too?
    good luck.

In Suffolk it often takes 6-8 weeks to deal with claims. Go into local JCP and use their warm phones to call Incap or ask staff as they may be able to call for you.

I work in a Jobcentreplus Benefits Agency office, we deal with ten Jobcentres with just twelve staff. Government cutting back, so no replacements for the five who left or one on long term sick.
WE receive 600 JSA claims a week, plus deal with any phone calls and on going maintainance work on claims already processed.
Some claims are straightforward, meaning ten to fifteen mins to process, ie put into pay. Some take an hour, ie other part time work, mortgages, other income etc.
We do the claims in order received, so having children does not fast track, we no longer pay for children so it makes no difference to our 'stats', yeah, I know.
Its currently taking us up to 8 weeks to process claims, as this is holiday season and three staff don't work during school hols, cutting staff down further.
I am not making excuses, just trying to explain why it takes so long. We all appreciate that this money is important to our customers.
