  • We had a lovely FREE afternoon at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, the one in the city centre. What made it even more fantastic was the FREE family crafts that takes place every sunday afternoon. My 2 girls made gorgeous masks for one and a half hours while partner and I took it in turns to check out the exibitions.

It was a great way to spend a wet Sunday
    ;D ;D ;D

and I think the Museum of London is free, at least on Sundays but someone might have better info.

It's not a museum, it is an event but it is free and I am told it is very enjoyable:

    Lord Mayor's Show
    Saturday 13 November, 11am, free!
Floats, bands, a parade and a fair in Paternoster Square, the Lord Mayor's Show is the City of London's annual hurrah to welcome the new Lord Mayor. Fireworks on the River Thames follow at 5pm (Tip: stand on the riverside near Blackfriars bridge for the best views). The parade goes via Gresham Street, Princes Street, Poultry, Cheapside, St Paul's Churchyard, Fleet Street, Victoria Embankment and Princes Street. All in all, a fun free day out for all the family and a quaint spectacle for visitors.

Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

Aren't all museums in London free? We went to the museum of London recently though, and I was very disappointed. When it first opened I went with my family and it was really brilliant, but this year I found it quite boring & not well laid out. It had changed quite a lot. One good bit was that we had gone on one of the days when they take people on a free visit to the remains of a Roman gate which is underneath a nearby road. They only do this visit once a month apparently.
