Alternative insurers

Im having trouble getting cheap quotes for our contents cover, most likely because we want to take lots of expensive items away from the home. Has anyone got any suggestions?

(our details: Rented ground floor flat, no alarm, 1 year no claims bonus)

I need around £30k of contents for the home, but I also need to cover away from home:
2x Parachutes at £4000 each
1x Engagement ring valued at £7000 on the certificate!! (this is way way way inflated over what I paid!)

My renewal quote I have is £301.50 from direct line (no accidental. £100 excess, no accidental or legal cover) Some companies wont even insure it (endsleigh wont cover aircraft or air items, more than said bye bye when I wanted all this stuff away from home). Closest Ive got is £381 from tesco for the same setup, and £341 for £250 excess.

I cant use stuff like moneysupermarket because it wont let me add on extra expensive items, and I refuse to ring every single insurance company! so can anyone suggest anything

Insure the engagement ring for it's real value, not what some certificate says. Insurers will only pay out the true value anyway so you are paying out money uneccesarily. Some people purchase cover from the jeweller that sold the ring but check the terms and conditions to make sure the cover is as wide ranging as your household policy.

Look at insuring your parachutes via a club scheme if you have one or a specialist policy for the sport.

That will then just leave the basics and you are free to shop around via the internet for that.
  • parachutes will most likely be excluded as aircraft or accessories for aircraft use. worth calling a broker maybe?
