yorks not great fort lux hotels, i think the best rated are the royal york hotel which is near the centre and i think is 4 star or the marriott which is near the race course and a fair walk from the centre (but only a few minutes by taxi). there is also a couple of independent hotels on the mount (near the race course) which are said to be nice but i can't remember their names.0

Try the Sheraton in Edinburgh. Very nice.0

Edinburgh has quite a few great hotels:
Marriott Dalmahoy is just outside Edinburgh, lovely hotel with leisure facilities
Sheraton Grand Hotel and Spa is located in the city centre
The Balmoral is located in the city centre
Caledonian Hilton Edinburgh is located in the city centre
The Witchery is near to Edinburgh Castle and something special - www.thewitchery.com:j Debt free since 31/01/08:j

I can't personally recommend these hotels, but they look nice
http://www.churchillhotel.com/ is walking distance from the centre of town (York).
 http://www.grangehotel.co.uk/ ditto
 http://www.deancourt-york.co.uk/index.asp ditto
Parking is expensive in York, so if you're coming by car I would choose Churchill (own car park) followed by The Grange (not sure if they have a car park) followed by The Dean Court. Most have offers/special deals on for Feb/March.:wave:0

I'd agree with the Marriott Dalmahoy- it's quite close to the airport (has a free shuttle bus, iirc) very romantic, great service, and you can use your Tesco CLubcard ponts for money off.:money:
The only drawback is it's not central Edinburgh, so depends what you want to do while you're in Edinburgh?Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

I see the marriott is mentioned - I had an email recently from ineedpampering (website) and you get a free spa day for use at any marriott when you buy anything on their site, using the code valentine
I bought a £25 voucher and got the free spa day! (Am hoping to either sell the voucher or use it at on the day..)
Maybe thats a nice idea to add-on? You can choose 2 between a facial, massage, and mani/pedicure!0

Marmadukes hotel in York is meant to be the best hotel in York, and in easy walking distance to the city centre.
Personally I wouldn't go with the Marriott in York as it's a fair way out and by a very busy road.
As said above, the Dean Court is also very nice.odi et amo0

Have you looked at the Faversham Arms in Helmsley, google it if not, they have Hot Tubs ETC and it looks really nice, not stayed there myself but a couple of friends have who throughly enjoyed it.MARCHING ON TOGETHER0

 Stick to central Edinburgh
The Dalmahoy has a depressing atmosphere and appalling service!!!An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :mad:  :mad:
I am no expert in property but have lived in many types of homes, in many locations and can only talk from experience.0
