Path is too deep - error message!

I've got a hard drive MP3 player (ipod equivalent) and was trying to transfer some tracks over from my PC, but I keep getting a message saying that the path is too deep and it fails to copy everything.
I managed to do a quick format of it, but it won't do a full one, and keeps saying that it failed to complete.
Any ideas? Most of the searches on google are only of use for PC hard drive problems. Although one said that it's a problem with USB 2. I recently installed a patch from my motherboard manufacturers that upgraded it to USB2. Is there any way of reversing that?

Path too deep message refers to the number of levels in the directory structure. How many levels of sub-directories do you have? I would not be surprised if you have problems after 7 levels.0

Move the folder (or files) to the desktop or c: drive on your computer just to get them onto your mp3 player, you've probably got a full filepath of more than 255 characters - which is easy to do if it's under "My Documents"0

The file path is only: G:\System\MUSIC0

are all your MP3's in there as g:\system\music\track1.mp3 etc etc or are they in as g:\system\music\RnB\dead artists\1990's\Tupac\best of\track1.mp30

Dead artists from the 90's?????? Is that how you classify a genre these days?I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

If it's rap, it's a logical subsection. My folders only go a maximum of one folder deep (and it's not rap) eg. g:\system\music\muse0
