The home-made butter thread reminded me of a query I've had for ages. My scales seem pretty accurate - but when I weigh a 250g pack of butter sometimes it's as little as 200g - I know it has that funny 'e' which I think means 250g on average rather than a definite measure, but i've never found a pack yet that goes over. Is this just me?

It's highly unlikely that a pack would be that far wrong. Even on "average weight" no individual pack is allowed to be wrong by more than a few %. A 20% error is way out there.
Check the battery of your scales if they have one, also check that it is not touching any other item on the worktop when you use it.
A good check is to use various packs with very light packaging such as a single layer of plastic or paper. These should be close to weoght or even very slightly above.
Examples would be flour, sugar, rice or pasta.Hi, I'm a Board Guide on the Old Style and the Consumer Rights boards which means I'm a volunteer to help the boards run smoothly and can move and merge posts there. MY OH bought me my first set of electronic scales a few months ago from Aldi (or Lidl?) - they were MILES out! LOL Bit off putting as I wanted them for the accuracy! :rotfl:
Def try the battery. We've got a multi LED changing light and one of the colours stopped working, then two! I thought it'd died but all was good with a new battery - I just assumed they'd all die together but not so!0 -
I agree, it sounds like your scales are on the blink. I'd be very surprised and annoyed if the pack was less than what it says on the wrapper.0

i'll try the battery - and weigh something unopened like a bag of sugar - if not, I'll be the one behaving strangely weighing different packets of butter on the weighing scales in the fruit and veg section of the supermarket!!0

"e" doesn't mean 'on average' - it is the minimum weight.0
