I can't see what theyve done wrong either

    Its MBNA's money afterall

Its upto YOU to work within THEIR rules and procedures not the otherway around ;D

Now if they have promised in writing one thing and done something else then you would have a case to complain about, but all I see is that they have done what they told yuo they were going to do.

    Ditto the last few posts.

I can't see why MBNA should want you as a customer, and treating their staff rudely isn't justified in any circumstances.

Oh for goodness sakes, I go away for a day and you lily-livered types queue up to put your politically correct fingers in the pie in everso correct fashion, don't you ?;D

First let me say that this was not some poor call centre worker I gave a piece of my tongue to.  It was the same no doubt well paid manager that threatened to freeze the entire facility immediately back in October while I was using it to the full during the third or fourth period of six months they have given me at 0%.  In the October phone call she backed down from putting my balls in the vice and winding it closed when she realised MSE might be looking.  She was using bully tactics then just as she was yesterday and on both occasions I gave as good as I got and no doubt she gt great satisfaction in adding my name to a list of reduced facilities before she had her second coffee yesterday morning.

And if you lot really want credit cards to morph into here today gone tomorrow credit lines over which you have no control if your circumstances change then be my guest, go arrange such useless facilities all you like.

The purpose of the information in this thread is to provide warning advice to those who may not be as smarmily confident of their continuing creditworthiness as you guys.  To them I say MBNA is like shifting sands.  Don't build anything important on your credit with them.

Some of you obviously missed the point in the first place, which was that having never commanded a six-figure salary, it was surely madness that I be able to build up a £21,900 credit line with them at all.  That was the fun part of my relationship with them.  Now it isn't so funny now they are suddenly dismantling it.  That's why I suggested the party is nigh on over.

Having been allowed so much credit and managed it perfectly well for a number of years, why on earth should I feel less than aggrieved when they have suddenly pulled the plug?  Who's side are you on guys?  You're not big enough to claim these banks are your business partners so why are you defending them?

I see they even have you working nights now then ... oh dear, and now the phrase "fly-by-night" has just sprung to mind ;D

    I guess we'll see you a bit later :D

Because they said they ain't giving me no more! This is exactly the point - the bank that has acted in a crazily generous fashion over the years - the one we have come to know and to rely upon for a whacking great limit and all manner of low rate promotions and money transfer facilities to anywhere we fancy has become feisty of late.

Let ME decide when I will give as good as I get to paid representatives. This is (still) a free country and if I decide I am being given the bum's rush then I shall decide what I say and to whom, okay? I have a pretty good idea of how I can conduct myself within the law, and a pretty good idea when I am going to receive a benefit or the opposite by using a particular style when dealing with people.

You might be brainwashed by the signs that appear above the heads of so many ineffectual 'customer services' (sic) counters thesedays that warn in carefully couched terms that abusive language will not be tolerated, but I am not. Those signs are only there because the corporate policies you allude to have failed the consumer so miserably to the point that customers have been regularly complaining loudly at those very same counters and it's getting a bit much for the local staff to swallow. It's not the customer's fault, and if the staff don't like it, and don't complain to their employer about the corporate policies that cause the disputes then that's tough on them. What happened to the adage "the customer is always right" to quote the other extreme?

I simply advise all those moneysavers that are not so confident of their position to think twice about doing business with some of these companies, and those like me can decide for themselves.

Oh come on now, the fact of the matter is that you have been dealing with MBNA to make money at their expense, they have quite reasonably decided that they want this to stop and so have pulled the plug.

If this leaves you in a position where you will have difficulties paying back your debt, then I'm afraid that's your problem not theirs - If you couldn't afford it then what were you doing taking it out in the first place?

It is absolutely not the fault of some poor sod in customer loyalty - how would you react if someone called you up and made threats? - and not really the fault of MBNA. Grow up, and take some responsibility for your own decisions.

I've been stoozing for several years and have had an MBNA card of some description for most of that period. In all that time I have never had a single problem with MBNA customer services, who on the contrary have proved unfailing courteous and helpful even when it is quite obvious what I was doing is taking advantage of their deals.

These are normal people doing a job and they will react much better and give you more help if you keep your toys inside the pram. This is basic common sense: if you insist on believing them to be menial idiots existing only to feed your requests for free money, I'm afraid you're really not going to get very far.

I'm sorry if the reaction here wasn't as you expected, but there aren't that many stoozers who are unhappy with MBNA deals - probably the second most generous in the industry after Egg - or their staff (usually referred to as the Corrs because of their delicious accents).

How come you are pursuing such a "holier than thou" line Tim L?

You have assumed that I am complaining because I somehow might have difficulty complying with my payment obligations.  You are quite wrong.

After having received a very unfriendly call from them in October, and having controlled that call as best I could,  I have received their threatened second call and so have now told MBNA where to get off, which is my right.  I don't need to wait around for them to finally tell ME they have frozen the facility completely which they could do at any time, now they have become feisty with me.  You have conveniently forgotten that I was the one who was "phoned up" and batted about the head, first being told the account would be immediately frozen and then, only after explaining I would discuss MBNA's action in this thread, being told that the execution would be stayed.  I was the one threatened with a further review.   I had done nothing wrong to receive that threat except take free cash as promoted by them. How have I threatened them?

That's why I had no compunction about letting them know exactly what I thought.  It made me feel better even if it didn't help you!

As for comparing Egg and MBNA, there is no comparison to be made in customer service terms.  Egg is structured extremely well to handle things that go a little wrong from time to time in a very gentlemanly fashion.  Communication with MBNA has always been a very sterile affair.

I too have been "stoozing" one way or another for several years quite successfully I think, so I'll thank you to be just a teenzy bit more circumspect about how far I might have got with my methods ;D
