Good online conveyancer for Scottish home.

Can anyone recommend me a good online conveyancer to purchase a house in Scotland.

No offence but as many know there are differences in Scot's law than English and I don't want any !!!! up's.

Does it have to be online?

The solicitor we used in our recent purchase was very good - in fact i received a cheque from him two months later saying that he had managed to cut a few costs from his inital quote and was refunding us the money!

Doesn't essentially have to be online but they are generally cheaper although there ae some mixed reports about them.

I'm looking to buy in the Falkirk area. Which area is this solicitor from?

The solicitor is based in wishaw - not a million miles away but yoyumay want to get someone more local. I've no experience of online conveyancing so could not say good or bad about it. To give you an idea of our costs we sold our house for just over 100k (total selling fees £500) then bought one at 160k (total buying fees £700 +stamp duty) but we then recieved £200 back so I thought £1000 in total (including searchs and stuff) was pretty reasonable.
  • I have used Conveyancing Direct who are based in Glasgow. Service was by e-mail, post and phone. I found them very fast, efficient and cheap.

They have an on-line calculator whereby you enter the selling and buying price and it will calculate your costs.

They were approx 1.5K less than local solicitor!:o

It's quoting me a total price of £615. This is for a house valued at £100,000. Does this sound reasonable? Remember I would appreciate only comments for people that have bought recently in Scotland.:D

cheers for that got a quote of 1300 for buying and selling, will need to phone the local solicitors to see if its competative or not

selling my home for 135k and buying new build for 142k
  • Argyll, online companies aren't always the cheapest!

    Try this firm,

    Macallans stonelaw road Rutherglen. 0141 613 1787

A reliable, decent, firm of solicitors, call them and ask for a quote.

Perhaps a bit of a travel, nevertheless I'm sure most of the conveyancing can be done by mail.
