A Little Rant! (Natwest related!)

Morning all, long time lurker first time poster. I'm just wondering if anybody else has been in this situation!

I'm lucky, I have no debts except for my mortgage and I make quite a good living - but in the past, when I was a bit reckless I had a six month period where I was being charged for everything! Now 5 years later, I feel I'm pretty responsible money wise!

I telephoned natwest a week ago to arrange for my bank statements to be sent to me. I was informed that the charge would be £5 - which I was happy to pay (well.. maybe not happy!)

However, I checked my bank this morning, and I see that they have taken out the £5 x 12 - meaning £60!

I rang and informed them of 'their error' this morning - and I was informed that the matter was being investigated and that I would receive a phone call in between 24 and 48hrs. Now, I dont mean to 'rock the boat' but if the show was on the other foot - and I owed the bank money... They'd be chasing me all over the place!

Has anybody else had a similar issue!?

To make matters worse - I think i;d overexaggerated my bank charges and I can claim back (pending the test case) about £18 - hmphrh!

Keep up the good work!

Tom :)

It maybe that you asked for the wrong thing. If you just ask for X past bank statements to be sent , then yes they will charge you £5 for each one.
If however you ask for all your history under the Data Protection act, the most they can charge is £10.

They just said £5 not specifying £5 per statement? ;)

Yup - i was told £5. Daylight bloomin robbery if you ask me.

I've since had telephone communication with them and I'm informed that the money will be going back into my account... but is that not scandalous?

EDIT - Thanx for the welcome! :)

To be honest, I didnt specifically mention the DPA - but I confirmed with the person I spoke to that £5 was the fee. Nowhere in our conversation did she mention £5 per statement...

    Hmphrh!

  • The charge for Natwest duplicate statements is a £5 flat fee however many statements you need. Tell them that you want it logged as a concern on your account, and that you want the money back straight away.

if u asked for x12 statements then thats what they charged u. its a known fact that banks charge u for each month of statements u require.

the 'error' u speak of is you own not natwests.

Technically that's correct but, luckily Natwest can have a heart and use common sense given the circumstances (which they did) :)

If you read the post - you would see that I didnt ask for x12 statements..

And the letter I'm holding in my hand shows that its Natwest's fault..

If that was the case, the fact that i asked for almost 60 months worth of statements that it would be a lot more than £60..

Feel free to read the post at any time you like...

lol-i reckon you are a natwest employee judging by what you said-being an ex-natwester, working in branch on CST, concerns & queries system was my best friend-lol!

In support to the original query of this thread I reckon you probably can get your money back as it looks like a simple error but its no consolation that it's in natwest's pocket and not yours!
