Modem cable question

Can someone help?
I've lost the cable that connects my US Robotics 56k external faxmodem (its a white box), to my rather poor spec Win 98 (1st edition) PC. The adaptor part at the back of the modem has 25pins, while there are 2 adaptors at the back of the PC which have 9 pins, and one (I think is for a printer connection that has 25pins)
I tried buying a USB modem but the min spec for it is better than the PC that I have - so i've decided to try and get the old modem working again.
Can anyone recommend the cheapest place to get the correct cable (and just double confirm for me the correct cable that I'll need - or even give me a reference number or something)
I've no internet ...... Please help

Best place to get one is probably your local small pc store (though PCworld and Staples etc will probably have them). You will need a db-9 to db-25 modem cable. You will need to see if you need a male (pins) or female (sockets) connection at each end. i.e you might need a DB-9 female - DB-25 Male. Make sure it is a modem cable as you can also get null-modem cables which have different wiring and will not work.
Hope this helps

Whilst not knowing the spec of your modem (may help to post the model number) - it sounds as though all you need is a parallel cable (both have 25 pins at each end). You DO NOT need a printer cable as these have a different connector that plugs into the printer side.
Decide if you need a male/male or male/female and then have a look at this site to choose what you want or go to pcworld etc.

What you describe is a serial cable. I work for an IT reseller & know one of these costs less than a quid wholesale, retail price will have a big markup on the high st. Click here for Maplin who want a fiver . PC World want a tenner  I can't paste the exact link due to session info being in it, the part number is F2L088U06. It may be cheaper & tidier to treat yourself to an internal PCI modem, although this involves taking a screwdriver to your PC. You'd probably pick one up for about £4 with postage on ebay.
Good luck
