Internet Connection Problem

I am trying to sort out my daughter's internet as she has broadband with talktalk and a speedtouch 330 modem which she connects to her laptop via USB. The modem is connecting OK to the Talktalk server but she cannot access anything on the internet are there any settings that we need to do on the laptop, I am confused?
