Out of date sunscreen

So two days before I go on a long awaited holiday to Tenerife I discover my favourite sunscreen went out of date April 2005.
Normally I would buy some more I guess but a) this is no ordinary stuff; it is a really fab dry mousse (Proderm) that sinks into your skin and you only put it on once a day and it is not greasy, sand does not stick to it and I love it. b) it was quite expensive and c) I have not seen it in Boots or Superdrug recently despite searching (though I see Piz Buin are trying to do a similar once a day lotion).
I don't mind if it has lost a few factors (spf25) but if it has lost all protective power then it is stupid to use it I suppose. Just kills me to throw it away and I can't get any more! I dislike ordinary greasy sun lotion.
What do you think?

I believe that they only reduce by a few factors, but I'm not sure.
Perhaps if you use is coupled up with something else for the really hot part of the day, and your face etc?Pre O/S: what's a vitamin? Does it begin with the letter e?Now: I'm not eating any of that pre-made rubbish...0 -
Yep, the word is they lose some degree of protection performance, but for all you ever wanted to know about sunscreen:-

is it really worth saving a few quid, when it could potentially be skin cancer you are toying with?
granted april is not that long ago, but if you are ginger minger like my good self, and burn within a few mins, i would buy more.0 -
Thanks...
It is not about saving a few quid really, as I would buy more if I could get hold of the wonderful stuff, it is one of those things that are worth every penny.
Ho hum...yes I do burn quite easily, I suppose I shouldn't take the risk..this stuff is just so much more pleasant than your usual greasy stuff that sand sticks to...0 -
is it the foam one in a white canister with blue/ornage writing? my old dear managed to get hold of some factor 50 of that for me last year when i was in the states. i will ask her where from, incase they still do it for you.0
-
That's the one idiot! Though sometimes the canister is blue. It varies.
There are online stockists in the UK I have now discovered, but obviously is too late for me this year...mind you I bet it is cheaper in the States...thanks0 -
Dammit! I hatehatehate suncream with a passion. I really really hate it. And I would use it daily if I could get something like that, but I 'forget' to put it on - obviously my subconscious would rather I got cancer than put up with the discomfort! I might have to look into getting some of this stuff sent over by one of my US friends - not very moneysaving right not, but I'd rather not get cancer at the end of the day!
Thanks for posting, even if I am moaning!!!
Edited to add - when do you go again? Google proderm on Google UK - or do a kelkoo search! You can buy it from various websites in the UK up to SPF30. May be able to pay a bit more for superfast delivery?0 -
Leaving on Saturday and not one of them can guarantee a next day delivery when you look on the small print. I would recommend it though.0

Oh well! I will be ordering some myself anyway
Hope you have a fab holiday!0 -
Although it has killed my already stretched finances I have been in my lunchbreak and bought some of the Piz Buin that claims to last 10 hours. I thought about it and decided that I don't want my holiday ruined by sunburn (and I burn and blister quite badly) not to mention the skin cancer risks. Maybe I will use the other stuff cautiously over here where the sun isn't quite so strong.
Oh yes, definitely order some proderm for yourself, its a lovely light mousse/foam.0
