You really do get what you pay for. The crucial RAM is much more open to O/Cing.0 -
Has anyone spotted any current special offer deals for the other ranges (5100 etc)?
Last month I got a great deal on an 8400 (now discontinued) but no-one seems to be posting deals on models above 3000 now - I don't know whether that's because there aren't any decent deals on them now or because there wasn't much demand from moneysavers.
I'm aware of the "D-D07515" 5100 P4 machine being promoted as this week's special on the Dell site but the monitor upgrades to TFT are overpriced so I would have to get it with a CRT and buy the TFT elsewhere which is a bit of a waste.0 -

I didn't say anything about overclocking the Dell, just the memory which I'm recommending. It's very possible, I have OC'd both of my Dells.

You`ll find that there are two 128`s fitted into TWO seperate slots on this model.
If you change one you have to change both and there are no other spare slots.
Anyway I`m running XP with only 256 memory with no problems.
Save your money.
Just checked the spec at Dell and you can have either a single slot with 256 or duel slots with 2x128.0 -
According to the Dell site this machine comes with 1x256MB chip, not 2 128MBs. If you keep a lookout for it there are still some people on Ebay selling the Dell memory which was on mega-cheap offer a few months ago. I bought a 256MB chip a few weeks ago for about £13, if I remember rightly. Personally I think you need at least 512MB if you want to run XP and have 2 or 3 programs open at the same time, or play any games.
Remember if you are buying a Dimension 3000 and you want to add in a graphics card (for gaming) they only take PCI ones - which are getting quite hard to find, and are pretty expensive even on Ebay! Best place to find them at the minute seems to be Ebuyer.co.uk - cost about £45 delivered for an FX5500.
Cheers

and for only an additional £11.75 you can upgrade tp a Pentium 4 Processor
If you are only after a base unit then this is still the deal to go for as you can easily sell the monitor for between £130-£150.0 -

It gives you the choice to change to 128`s for free, hence you then get two slots which will let you double the memory over a single slot.
also note speakers and modem not included.0 -
The 3000s have two slots - if you get the 1x256MB option one of the slots is free - at least it is in my son's Dimension 3000 which I bought a few months ago. I just added a second 256MB chip in the spare slot. You don't get medals for sitting in the trenches.0
