Is my Gas bill excessive?

There's me and the bloke in a 3 bed mid terrace.

New boiler etc fitted in December.

Have taken a metre reading and done all the converting to kwh bumph and have worked out that including VAT and the standing charge our bill for Nov, Dec, Jan is £100.50.

Have checked the switch sites and this seems to be the heapest tarrif, it just seems expensive to me.

The heating comes on for an hour and a half in the morning set at 18 degrees,
then rest of day at 16 degrees(though it never actually kicks in)
then 4.5 hours at night at 18 degrees,
then off overnight.

2 short showers a day and washing dishes is the only other gas usage. Washing machine is cold fill so no gas used there.

When we moved in in November I set our monthly direct debit at £30 which over the year should balance out, but I was hoping it would be much lower. Also in November we had an old back boiler and water tank(have a condensing combi now) so I suppose that would maybe up the cost a bit.

Any advice.

either that or you live in a mansion with a gas range cooker
  • he he - no, I have a very old boiler and my house is very old and ceilings very high. The central heating system is also old and I have a gas fire. I leave the heating on during the day for my animals (don't ask) so it's my own fault!

  • :T he he - it's not just me then who's dotty over animals! Have just switched from NPower to EON, but expect they'll all raise their prices soon enough - will have to think about getting a new boiler soon though ... and maybe some insulation. Either that, or buy us all fur coats to lounge around in!
