interest on savings

Options
does any one on here think of interest as a bonus or even a living?

I've got lots of thoughts on it. But I'd like other opionions first, before I open my big mouth.

of course everyone wants the best rate they can get, but is even getting the top rate just treading water?

If it's in a cash ISA then you can easily beat inflation at the moment.

If you are saying that you can't always rely on cash accounts to beat inflation or to provide the best long term returns, then I have to agree with you.

One thing you can't easily do is to retire at 65 and live to 100 from building society interest, unless you have pots of surplus income at 65.

Interest could be 5% gross now and 1% gross in 35 years' time  after which the cost of living has also mushroomed - delivering a "double whammy".
