Charity search engines
Options
I have found a list of 15 of them at: http://www.doshdosh.com/13-charity-search-engines-that-help-you-give-money-to-charity-for-free/ This is not a comprehensive list as more of them come online. The one I use is http://epilepsyresearchuk.easysearch.org.uk. I would be grateful if people could add more onto the list.

hi ahai,
I have set one up this year that uses google search (as it is the best) to exclusivly support oxfam. It has been up since the 16th of january and has raised 40 pounds all ready. All of the money raised will go to oxfam at the end of the year. I have noticed that alot of them only give 50%. I would be interested on your feedback.

Most of them seem to be the better developed one's as they can put more resources into them but that is not always the case. It's just another way of making money as Martin says the hungersite makes money from people buying things and not from the click throughs.
I use easy search because of the fact that the money goes to the charity I want it to go and that it is well designed and easy to use.
There is another one to add from Matic Taxi called Magic Schools. at: http://www.magicalschools.co.uk/0 -
The ability to support multiple charities is a good point. However, the support of one charity allows for a dedicated cause. Also, i find yahoo quite poor in its search results (this might just be me) i wanted users to get the best results while still supporting charity. At the end of the day i chose Oxfam as they do great work fighting poverty. In addition, i wanted the site to be as simple as possible and even if we finish the end of the year with £40 it will still help many people who are without water.
It does concern me that the other sites you have mentioned are taking 50% of the donations, they may be better developed (which is debatable). However, i think a charitable search engine can be well developed and raise the maximum amount possible, hence why i created www.donateapenny.co.uk.0 -
The comapanies are been honest and people know what percentage is going to charity. I feel that the the people behind them need the resources to keep the project going as well as to pay the venture capital people and the other backers. A lot of them invest huge amounts of money on marketing to make the project worthwile as well as anti fraud techniques to make sure that people don't spend all day on the search engine and distort the searches. Also a lot of them give out the money either monthly or quarterly which requies some administration. Not forgetting the other technial equipment to do things like count the votes and how much goes to what organisation.0

I use everyclick.com/violettrust, it raises essential funds for the Violet Trust - a charity which supports cancer research and care. Use it as your search engine and you raise money for cancer services without it costing you a penny! :jThanks for the advice Martin! :money:Member no. 920 - Proud to be dealing with our debts0
