Mould in conservatory (merged threads)

I need some advice on the mould in my conservatory. I moved in about a 18 months ago. The previous people have not given me any paperwork with the conservatory so i am unable to do anything about a guarantee. I have mould growing and it is very damp and cold in the conservatory. currently there is no heating and am wondering whether to go to the expense of having a radiator fitted so that it will stop the mould. can anyone please advise me?

  • I have mould growing in my conservatory and was dismayed to find it has affected my sofa too. I have only moved in a short time and have no paperwork from the previous owners on the conservatory.

I am currently considering going to the expense of having a radiator fitted in the conservatory but don't know if this will solve the mould issue. Currently there is no heating in there and there are no vents. however, i get the impression it is not air tight in there as when you stand in the conservatory you can hear everything outside, just as if a window was open.

Has anyone got any advice they can give on stopping the mould growth, or heating or even the fact that it doesn't seem air tight.

I would say the mould is due to condensation and the cold weather. I would def. install some heating in the there and make sure the room is well ventilated too.

You should also treat any existing mould as you shouldn't inhale any spores.;)
  • we use a dehumidifier in ours and also got a radiator dehumidifier takes the dampness out of the air ,get the odd spots of mould if weather really bad for a while but just clean it wiv bleach,

Air vents are essential in a conservatory IMO, I have two fitted and have never had any mould growth ever.
  • Can you tell me what you mean by IMO? Also do you leave the air vents open all the time?
  • Can you tell me what a radiator dehumidifyer is and where i would get one at the best price possible?

OK, IMO is Forum Speak for " In My Opinion " , and yes I leave them open at all times, a bit draughty at times but it does keep the conservatory well vented and free from any mould growth.
