Tips for whitening towels

Have you tried a boil wash or napisan? Although I've yet to find napisan in the shops, must be looking in the wrong place (Sainsburys, Tesco, Wilcos).0

I buy Napisan from Wilcos, Tescos, Sainsburys...it's kept with the baby things rather than laundry. I use it for towels and teatowels to kill germs, but as mine are coloured I can't tell you whether they would whiten. Costs about £1.60 for a box.0

I agree napisan is great but I think it's Australian??? I'm from there originaly and only seen it there and in aussie shops here. You can get it from the Australia Shop in Covent Garden, or https://www.sanza.co.uk sell it online. I suspect the stuff in Tesco's in a pink tub (can't remember the name) does something similar though.0

In a large plastic (don't use a metal one) bucket add half an eggcup of any household bleach to 1 gallon of water, add towels & leave overnight, then wash & dry as usual. Thats what I used to do with my nappies & they remained white through all 4 babies.

All all the above, plus can you dry them outdoors? The sun has an amazing whitening effect.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

As well as using Napisan you can also drop a baby bottle sterilizing tablet in with your white wash. I do every so often (when my local Tesco havent got any Napisan in stock). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. I`ve got some white bath and hand towels which I`ve had for about a year- good quality but they have lost their original whiteness and started to look a bit dingy. I`m loath to throw them out as they are such good quality and still very thick and fluffy. Anyone have any tips for bringing the whiteness back. I did read that white vinegar is supposed to work but not sure of the quantity to use.0

You could get some of the Oxy bleach which can be used with clothes. Put the recommended amount in water in a bowl and soak the towels overnight. Then, if they are white give them a good hot wash with bio washing powder.
If that doesn't work I would try ordinary bleach. Even if it weakens the fibres a bit, at least they will be white. I've done this, following the soak with a hot wash. I always rinse the bleach solution out before putting them in the machine as it perishes the seal.
About a year ago I bleached - with Tesco value bleach - some grey/white knickers. They are all still going strong.0 -
Thanks for that tip - I will give it a try.0
