Should I apply for credit card now - or wait?

Hi, hope that some of you could give some advice over here.

I am thinking of applying for a Nationwide Classic credit card, to cover my upcoming trips in March and in June.

My recent credit searches are:
5/11/2007 - Applying for Halifax current account - successful
21/11/2007 - Applying for Post Office credit card - declined

Otherwise there are no adverse information or arrears (all '0's and never missed any payment/late payment), though my occupation (student) may not be very helpful.

Of course I am keen to apply for the card these few days (so I can receive in time for my March overseas trip, if successful), but the June trip is definitely more important due to its duration etc.

I know I only got one shot to apply (as most card issuers want us to wait 6 mths to reapply if unsuccessful?). Would you think applying say this Friday be too soon? Or would you suggest waiting till April/May for the best possible chance? Will there be any large difference if I wait/not wait?

Thanks for all your advice in advance! :)
