Brake light warninging on dash

Hi
After getting a garage local to my work place to check my brakes & give me a quote, I asked them to go ahead with the replacement pads & discs after getting price down from £145 to 100.

Since then the brake light on dash hasnt flashed - until tonight when its flashed a couple of times. Should I wait to see if it goes away or should I go back to garage? I just hope theyve not put naff bits on due to getting discount. Thnks

Also - quickly, tyres - I put new set of Mich on front last Oct. Have done approx 20k & already they are almost down to the min mark. I thought theyd have done much better. The last budget tyres which the garage put on when I got the car are still well legal - on the back.

Thanks

Usually when the brake light warning flashes it is a sign that the brake pads
are running low.Did your garage just change the discs,or maybe forget to change one of the pads?
You could also check your brake fluid level as that might be low or possibly
has an airlock after fitting new brakes and not bled properly afterwards.I guess there is a chance that the warning light could be faulty-short circuit for instance?if you can find nothing-go back to the garage and ask them to
check. You should be able to see if they have refitted your old pads by the
small amount of brake pad that is left.

As for your tyres, you don't say what car you have but I suspect that it will
be front wheel drive, and those cars are heavier on your front tyres than the rear ones.IF you drive your car hard, tyres will wear out quicker.
It is great getting wheel spin on take off,but it does the tyres no good.

As Tonys says, could be an airlock. Try removing the brake fluid reservoir cap and then replacing it. Might solve it.

  • It could be that the wear sensor wire has rubbed on something and is completing the circuit just like it would for worn pads. Happened to me a long time ago on a Citroen AX.
