Nintendo DS Lite technical problems

My daughter's DS Lite froze last night in the middle of a game and today it seems to have died. When it's switched on the green light comes on but the screens are blank. Unfortunately the warranty ran out as she's had it for about 14 months.
Any ideas what we can do or where to go to get it repaired?
Thanks

Does the start up music (chiming bell sounds) play? Have you checked you haven't turned off the backlight off/down? Have you tried turning it on without a game in it?0

BusyGirl, the thing should last longer than 14 months.
Take it back to where you bought it from and ask them to get it fixed at their expense.0 -
Indeed, if you still have the proof of purchase, the retailer is liable for a 'realistic lifetime' of the product. I think for £100 you should expect better than 14 months play. If you write to the company's customer service department and demand a replacement, you should have some joy.
I have to say though, in my experience, I have not returned any DS Lites with this problem and if it is not a recorded issue, then you may struggle to prove it was not broken by mistreatment.0 -
Some checks I would make if I owned a DS which I dont but family members do is to dothe following:
1. take out any sim card and try to power up.
2. attach you AC adapter and try to power up whilst on mains
3. find a friend with a DS lite AC adapter and use that instead to try and charge and turn it on.
Hopwfully one of the above should rule out problems with the battery being faulty and or AC adapter being faulty.
Alternatively it could be a blown fuse if the fault sounds similar to the link below but that would be the last resort for me after harassing the retailer for a replacement.

Good luck and hope you get the problem sorted.0 -
Thanks for all of your replies guys. Unfortunately it's still dead!0

We bought 2 DS lites in October for Christmas presents for our kids. About 3 weeks ago one just died with he same symptoms, we have just got it back and the other has done exactly the same!
At least ours are still under the Nintendo 12 month warranty. We got them from Argos, it might be less hassle to take it back there.0 -
I think your best bet is still to complain to the retailer you bought it from. Likely, they will replace the unit if you are willing to send them a letter and follow their instructions. Repairing it may cost near enough the same as a second hand one from eBay, and a little less than a new one.0

I have similar issues with my DS/Lite -- trouble is it was bought in Hong Kong during a visit their just after Christmas.
It just won't power on. Have changed batteries but no joy. Plug mains in and the light comes on for a bout a second and then goes off.
Any hope of getting Nintendo UK to do anything???0 -
