  • Cant help on the flights but if you have 3 days free i can recomend this;

    Its really nice to sit on deck and enjoy the coastal scenery adn there is plenty of things to do on board, In my eyes you get far more for your money than with a flight but i guess it depends what your going for and for how long. (maybe you can hop off one and catch the next on back to increase the stay?)

    Either way , from £49pp its got to be one of the best value trips around to get a glimpse of an amazing part of the world!

    the only budget airlines that go to bergen are norwegian.no from standsted
    and jet2 from newcastle.
    ryanair fly from standsted to haugusund which is 3 hours south of bergen.
    failing them its flysas from your regional airport,they can be quite reasonable if you give enough time.

    I travelled to Stavanger this way a few years back. It was great fun but check which cabin you get - I felt claustrophobic on the lower deck cabins (and I worked onboard ships at the time) and would recommend the outside cabins.

    Was looking at a seaview cabins, but can't seem to find the £49 journeys.
  • Has anyone travelled by ferry?

    Yes i have, I did this trip about 7/8 years ago, its still exactly the same, my sister did it about 3 years ago.

    I have also travelled by ferry to varieous parts of scandinavia although most of it was in the 90's.

    Anything you want to know?

    guessing at the obvious, the boats are huge so their is almost no movement thus sea sickness is not usually an issue only in relatively rough weather (7+) have i really noticed a sway, a simple stugeron tablet before the trip for those who might suffer will knock it on the head anyway. They are called ferry's but they are huge ocean going ice breaking liners, not little by anyones standards!

    Edit;
    The cabins are cabins, not rooms, sleep in them and store things in, drink cups of tea, eat snacks etc but they arent for living in. There is so much to do on the ship + sit in lounges (drink eat your own food if you want) to relax, you shouldent really be spending time in your cabin but to kip.
    Recommend being above the car deck. book outer cabin over inner but not really to important if any substantial cost difference.
    I would find out which trip is slightly longer(tue/sat (cant remember, one you get a full afternoon in bergan the other you get an overnight and its not as good if you want to spend time ashore,think tue is the longer but not 100%)

    anything else just shout. P.s just tried 7th june, £112 for 2 people with sea view cabin (upgrade) so £56pp v,good value, suppose it depends when you want to go tho.
  • Was it £112 return?
  • its under the cruise, it drops you back where you started,

    so it was £112 for 2 people newcastle to newcastle via bergan if that makes it clearer.
