Moving mouse curser!!

For some reason my curser on the screen moves on its own

It does it quite often and tends to travel NW up the screen quite slowly!!

I have a Samsung optical wheel mouse which isn't usb.

Anyone know why?

Thanks.

My mouse was doing this the other day (cursor moving NW). Sounds silly but it turned out that the mouse cable was snagged around another cable behind the PC. Whenever I let go of the mouse, the weight of the other cable was pulling the mouse tiny distances, which caused the cursor to move on its own.

Also make sure it's not being caused by a vibration on the desk.

double checked, cable is not snagged. The movement is very computery, if there is such a word.
  • i had same prob with my cordless optical... try giving it a tap on the desk alwasys worked for me!!!

The cursor on my optical mouse moves on it's own, always to the left, I thought it was haunted. 1a_y_smile.gif

Tapping it stops it when in motion, but why does it start moving?

I'm guessing software, windows and mouse are talking the same language?

Might be reflection off the surface you are using it on causing the mouse to think it's moving. I get that occassionally too.

Didn't think of that one!! Will try a mouse mat, I currently use my computer desk which is very light in colour.

The cursor on my cordless optical used to move up to the top right hand corner (politically incorrect ?) After several frustrating hours, sussed that it was the batteries not charging in the cradle. New batts and status quo restored.
  • It can be the sensitivity setting being too high, also vibrations can make the mouse move.
I'm not poor i'm just skint
