DG834G Netgear ADSL Modem/Router - IE Problems

Hi

I've just got my Netgear adsl modem/router today and have eventually managed to set it up with AOL after nearly putting it through the window. Anyhoooow . . . . some web pages won't connect in Internet Explorer, seems to be the secure ones, like https://www.lloydstsb.com and https://www.hotmail.com. I've tried to change the firewall settings, but everything i try doesn't work.

Has anyone experienced this problem before and if so how on earth did you solve it?

BTW i can look at any web pages in AOL browser without any problems :-)

Help!

    Hi mrbnewc!

The following should resolve your problem:

    1. Go to the Netgear Settings site (http://192.168.0.1)
    2. User Name = Admin
    3. Password = password
    4. On the left hand menu, scroll down to WAN Setup
    5. Change MTU size down from 1500 to 1400 and click Apply.

    That's it....problem solved 4u .......hopefully :)

It's best to set the MTU on the PC's to 1400 as well using DrTCP

    Explanation:

AOL uses a smaller packet size (all data sent across networks is put into little packets), than the standard windows default and significantly smaller than most networks.
As a result the the packets have to be broken up, or fragmented, when they enter the AOL network. This can cause problems with some websites, and particularly when trying to use a secure connection (SSL).
Changing the MTU reduces the packet size used by the PC and/or the router to prevent the packets being fragmented.
