    If you can cook how about some casseroles / shepherds pies / chillis etc that can be put in the freezer and heated up quickly for days when mum just can't get herself together - almost a daily occurrence for me when DD1 was a newborn :rotfl: . Or if not how abut some M&S ready meals? I would have really appreciated this.

    We did get quite a few bottles of champagne but they had to stay unopened for quite a while as I was breastfeeding and couldn't drink.

    Or why not just ask the parents to be if there is anything they would like and haven't yet bought - bedding or a bouncy chair maybe?
