Gift for new parents

Hello everyone
As someone that never intends to stat a family, I am stuck with what to get as a gift for new parents when their baby girl is born in May. They are both in low paid jobs, and I don't want to give cash, but Mothercare vouchers seem so boring - an ideas would be gratefully received.

How about getting a basket and making up as hamper containing baby things and maybe a small mothercare voucher in with it.LBM-29/08/07

Do you have any idea of how much you want to spend?0

How about cinema vouchers and an IOU for babysitting....they are usually valid for 12m.
Or along similar principles, for an hour's ironing / cleaning / cooking a meal for them & then taking baby for a walk while they have an hour to themselves?
They may appreciate the value of those gifts more than a "present", if you get my meaning!0 -

when my eldest son was born, our best gift was a large basket filled with things like nappies / wipes / baby bath / a soft toy / bibs / muslin cloths etc
all arranmged nicely inside
all little things that were very useful
you can pretty it up with ribbon / cellophane etc

I would write out a babysitting voucher without an expiry date so they can take it in their own time and along side this pay for restaurant vouchers, so at some time (probably after the sleepless nights pass) they can use your vouchers and know they have a babysitter ready. No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30

Making up a hamper with baby essentials would go down well i'm sure. I had something similar off a friend and it was fab - useful things are great with a new baby rather then keep sakes I personally feel.0

I agree with Rachie B. A large basket with nappies, wet wipes, towels, vests, shampoo....etc is a good idea. My husbands aunt did that for us when our eldest was born and it all came in handy and was greatly appreciatedwhen my eldest son was born, our best gift was a large basket filled with things like nappies / wipes / baby bath / a soft toy / bibs / muslin cloths etc

I never buy for baby as I know that everyone else will.
I buy for mum and dad. I normally give a bottle of cava so they can wet the babies head and for mum I buy her smellies and candles so she can have a nice long hot soak on her own.
