Baliffs--------any advice please

hello everyone i'm new but have been looking through the posts and see that there are alot of people here with excellant knowledge about a lot of stuff. I would like to kindly ask if you cud advise me on a certain matter.

my husband got some parking tickets in 2006 we didnt know about them until we recieved a letter from a company called Collect services. We were asked to pay about £450 for each parking ticket (2 in total) we paid up as we were scared, and as we are on a IVA i called them to requset a copy of my payment (which i still havent recieved)
Well anyhow i gave them the reg of the car and they informed me that he had another outstanding ticket for the same location just 5 days later however they were asking for £260 now. I'm not sure how they work out the price and i questioned them on it by sending a recorded letter but have heard nothing.

The 3 tickets were issued in march 2006, the 2 that we paid off for were £450 each, and we were informed about these in august 2007, the 3rd ticket i found out abt in Jan2008 when i called for a copy of my payments, this ticket is £260. If i hadnt called i would never have found out but i'm just shocked that the fee they are asking for is nearly half then wat they charged us in August is this right? or am i just being stupid its all from this one company Collect services.

thank u and i hope some one can make me understand why such a huge price difference.

  • I'm not to sure what to say. I just google'd collect services and the website looks a bit cheap and suspect. Try citizens advice and try the local authority who issued the tickets in the first place to see if they are the legitimate collector for their debts. You need to act fast though cause they like to add the charges up.
Its time to nut up or shut up......!

  • Hi - as you didn't receive the parking tickets, you need to get on to the council(s) who issued them ASAP. Ask for a statutory declaration form in relation to each ticket.

You then need to get this sworn - the cheapest way is usually your local Magistrates Court. You go there with the stat dec and swear on oath that you didn't receive the tickets etc. Then you send the form off to the council (recorded delivery). You will then get to pay the tickets at the original rate. WELL WORTH IT!

Bear in mind that, as it involves swearing on oath, you commit perjury if what you say isn't true.

  • just wanted to say thank you for your advice i will definately call up parking services tomorrow, and can i still apply for a statutory declaration for the other 2 tickets that i paid the baliffs off for. i have done a declaration for the 3rd ticket and now await to hear from the courts about it.

  • Yes, you should be able to make a stat dec, but get a move on with them, the sooner the better.

When you say you've done the stat dec, do you mean you've sworn it already, or just prepared it?

  • I already sworn one in out of the 3 tickets that my hubby got, the last 2 we just paid the baliffs of cause we didnt know wat to do and plus we were scared of them coming round.

So basically your saying i should do the same for the other 2 tickets that i paid off for last august and thats still ok?

*cough* actually they 99% certain aren't bailifs... they're debt collectors which is a totally different ball game! They have nowhere near the power of bailifs!
