Flights to Capetown from UK or Dublin

Can anyone advise I am looking for flights to Capetown from Belfast. We dont mind travelling to another airport it really depends on the costs. We plan to travel christmas 2006 for 2 weeks and are a family of 5 mum dad and 3 kids well they will be 16 18 and 20 so prices will be for 5 adults. Is it better to book early or wait a while longer. Thanks

Normally with scheduled flights it's better the book early - the premise being that if you try to buy a ticket the day before you REALLY need to get to your destination, so there is a premium applied to the ticket price. I've flown to Capetown with KLM before - went from London to Schipol (sp?) and then Jo'burg and Capetown. Cracking place - loved it. flights cost around £570, but that was a couple of years ago now...

I know someone who flew with KLM and were extremely impressed. The captain took them on a low level tour of the surrounding area (Cape Town I think) and gave them a commentary.

Do you seriously mean Christmas 2006? I don't know if they let you book more than a year in advance.

We booked through Trailfinders when we went to South Africa last year. They were excellent and arranged internal flights too. I've also used Travelbag in the past, who I believe are now part of Ebookers. Both Trailfinders and Travelbag were really competitive on flights.

All KLM flights to Cape town seem to give this ‘special’ commentary and tour – it’s nice when you’re on there, but then you find out that they do this on every flight. It’s just the way they come into the airport!

As has been stated on here, you may have difficulty trying to book so far ahead, but I would not take too long as the flights to S.A. fill up v. quickly in the Christmas holiday season, you can try to ring KLM and yes they are good, to see if they will make you an offer.

KLM have some odd timings arriving/ departing from Cape Town. Some flights arrive at 22.55 and depart at 00.45. These are bound to be the cheaper flights. Have a look at the flight timings on different days of the week, the better times may cost a little bit more but could be worth it. I've found that arriving in the morning at Cape Town, about 9.00am and leaving before 9.00pm to be better.
If going via Heathrow connecting at the same terminal is a lot easier, bmi and SAA both use Terminal 1 which should be OK.
The cheapest days to fly to Cape Town are December 25/26th and returning 31st December, including one of these may bring the price down.
