After we have purchased a house my wife and I (both around 50yrs) shall shortly have approx £230-£240k that we want to invest for an income after selling our business.

Find a local IFA to talk you through your options. With that amount of money you definitely want professional advice rather than some random people on an internet forum

At this point in time with the information you have given we are looking at about 38,000 options. I may type a lot but listing 38,000 options isnt really viable
