I'm not sure there's too much to do in the way of activities - it's a rather quanit old fishing town famous for it's oysters.

we ate at "wheelers oyster bar" and it was absolutely delicious. Check-

    Hi Sale
i dont know if its changed its name but PEARSONS CRAB & OYSTER HOUSE was/is a famous seafood restaurant in Whitstable i havent been for many years but it was certainly an excellent restaurant & in the afternoon/early evening it was certainly family friendly. they have opened another restaurant in Chestfield called THE BARN this is also a very good restaurant, if money is no object READS in mackenade 10 miles o/s whitstable is a excellent restaurant but its a set price of 45 pound a head(69 pound for a taster menu with wine & they let children in lunchtime) i have eaten there & bumped into a few local celebs
hope this has helped in some way if u want some cheap but excellent seafood restaurants a day trip to France might be in order you can normally get ferry crossings(car +5/9 people) for less than a twenty quid then in Calais there are plenty of seafood restaurants for less than 20 euros a head (i recommend Cote D'Argent/La Syllphide over looking the harbour)
all the best & enjoy Whitstable if possible come for the Oyster Festival which is 23-31 July

Try the Crab & Winkle Restaurant, South Quay, Harbour Street. Everyone from this area (I live in Herne Bay about 2 miles away) heads there for seafood. May be best to book though as it gets very busy this time of year.

Yep - The Crab and Winkle gets my vote too! After you've had your lunch there go downstairs and buy fresh fish and oysters from the two shops beneath the Restaurant - you won't get it much fresher than this!

    I'm a Whitstable resident :-)

The Crab and Winkle, and the Oyster Stores which is on the beach are both excellent seafood restaurants but pricey. Also depends on what your son will eat - mine has ended up with a plate of chips before because everything else is too fishy!

The beaches are generally stony, but there are sandy bits if you look so it's worth bringing a bucket and spade. Tankerton beach, slightly to the east, is nice. Something children love is fishing for crabs which can be done if the tide is right. Tankerton slopes are good for kite-flying too, and there is a very good fish and chip shop in Tankerton Road. When the tide is out, there's 'the Street', a spit of land which goes way out into the sea which you can walk along - very exciting for little ones.

At the end of July (I think) there's an Oyster festival which is fun. If you google it you will find dates and activities. The firework display out at sea is spectacular.

Have a nice time here! Oh and the sunsets are amazing, try and choose a nice day and stay till evening.
