Insurance Claim

I am new to this so please be kind ......
My family and I moved into our lovely new house on the 4th July 2007, this was the week after the floods on the 25th June. Towards the end of August we noticed a smell of damp in the utility room/downstairs bathroom, but didn't think a lot of it (!) until in September we began to find mould in all the downstairs rooms. We contacted our insurance in October only to be told that because we moved in after the 'event' we could not claim on our insurance, and that we should claim on the vendors building insurance. After contacting our solicitors regarding this, who then wrote to their solicitors, the vendors have basically said 'tough, not our problem'. I have since contacted ClaimsLine UK and spoken to a very nice man who informed me they must let us claim from there insurance and that if I contact my solicitors and get them to get the name, address and policy number he will fight our case.
Just wondered if anyone else was having a similar problem .... or if anyone had any words of wisdom??
