NPower switched me over without telling me

I have been with Atlantic Electric and Gas for over 2 years and had a very good service.
Imagine my surprise when I get a letter from Atlantic saying they were sorry I'm leaving.
I phoned them up, and they said they had been contacted by a supplier saying I'd signed on with them. I told them this is rubbish as I havent signed with anyone, and was very happy with Atlantic.
After a bit of detective work, I found out it was dodgy NPower. When I phoned NPower they claimed it must have been a mistake on their part.
Surely this is illegal? As I hadnt even spoken to NPower on signed anything with them.

Go to the ombudsmen http://www.ofgem.gov.uk/Pages/OfgemHome.aspx and put a formal complaint in. Ask Npower to stop the transfer.
Sorry not personally been through this but have heard stories. Hopefully Ofgem can help.:jMay 2013 new beginnings:j0 -
Cheers Wendy.
Just filled out a complaint with Ofgem/Energywatch0 -
Sadly, this a common issue.
It can happen due to various reasons e.g. a) your neighbour getting your MPAN/MPRN and adding it to their contract b) dodgy salesmen forging a contract for a quick commission or even c) things like crossed meters can cause it.
So, it could be even be a genuine mistake.
Energywatch will help you anyway. It's so common that it's very easy to resolve and they will just apologise and reverse the switch.
Don't let it worry you, it happens a lot. It's easy enough to sort.
Just remember to keep the money you should be paying because Atlantic may end up charging you 2 full quarters in one go since these Erroneous Transfers (ET) can take a couple of months to resolve.:rotfl: It's better to live 1 year as a tiger than a lifetime as a worm...but then, whoever heard of a wormskin rug!!!:rotfl:0
