What is the good of thinking about it? What can you do? Buy a big cistern and lay in a store of petrol?
BTW. I think it is good. We drive too much instead of walking, cycling and using public transport.0 -

The problem is that worlds consumption of oil is rising, whilst the world is getting a lot more unstable which will ultimately increase prices, its all down to supply and demand. The government recently announced again that tax wont go up as it was suppose to do in September.
We have to pay it whether we like it or not. I agree with Gumbler, we do sue our cars far more than most on the continent, public transport in UK is diabolical and sadly after last week it got a whole lot worse.

Who cares what the price is. If asia keeps increasing its consumption we will end up with rationing.

Shrek101 understates the case.Yes,world consumption is rising but at the same time
the world is losing the battle to find new oilfields to replace the present ones that are running out.The forecast is that somewhere between this year and next, the demand for oil will outstrip production..
When that happens,100p a litre will be cheap- double it for starters and then think about the consequences. All goods will go up in price. There will be rationing as
governments prioritise the available petrol.[does the motorist get first dibs,or will
the armed services, the plastics producers, the medical companies, road hauliers or the
airlines?]The second hand car price will plummet as many will be unable to afford to run them, especially as so many other items will rise in price.Bankruptcies will
increase and many people wll not be in a position to pay all their bills, which will
affect lending companies.I expect mortgages to be more difficult to obtain also.
Certainly the weaker car producers will fail especially in countries that find it difficult to afford/lay hands on sufficient oil supplies.
So it is pretty certain that America will be in Iraq for a long time to come.I hope that
after last weeks episode in London they keep us supplied wth oil too, after all it is
not now just our soldiers whose blood has helped pay for their oil.But maybe Blair
went into bat alongside the USA on the agreement that we would get oil in return?
I don't suppose it was an accident either that Iran discovered a massive oilfield on the Iraqi borders.Give them a couple of years and both countries will be part of the USA.
Petrol at 100p per litre- I am sorry to say that life will be a lot more serious than that.
I mean I didn't even mention that if the USA was prepared to go to war over oil, which other countries may be forced to as well.Every one talks about America being the most powerful country, but that's only because China so far has only flexed its muscles
inside its own territory. But with a population three times greater than the Yanks and
a population perhaps more willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, and both nuclear powers,it does not bode well for the future.0 -

Not only is our public transport system rubbish and ridiculously expensive when compared to the continent, but our petrol is also more expensive than theirs as well!!!
Furthermore, in London the underground system is already pretty much at capacity (not sure what will happen after the 7/7 attrocity) and cannot take many more transferring from their cars on to it. And it is not just a case of running more trains because the safety margin between trains has already been met! And bus routes have been shortened so that where a single journey use to go from A to B you now often need to take 2 or 3 buses each with a separate fare of £1.20!0 -
Petrol is over £1.00 a litre now in the western isles!:eek:0

If I had to walk, cycle or use public transport it would take me over four hours to get to work and back plus a long walk down quiet country lanes which in the dark I wouldn't want to do!
Why should I pay through the nose for petrol to earn a living? I'd actually be better off claiming Jobseekers and lazing around each day, but I don't - I'd also like a free house but instead I am scraping savings together to get a deposit for a mortgage that I will never be able to get because it won't buy me anything! My biggest outgoing is petrol - even bigger than my rent!
Why haven't there been any fuel protests this time? If the money went on fuel alone that's fine but the government take the biggest chunk!
Can't wait to get to France in 10 days time to pay a decent amount for fuel.

Frankly this country is becoming a joke soon you will not be able to put a roof over your head let alone run a car so what will we all do then!0

Frankly this country is becoming a joke if you can't get to work to pay for petrol how are your going to put a roof over your head. I am in the same situation as you Skint Catt. My petrol bill is horrfic it pi**es me off big time. If my petrol bill was cut in half my quality of life would be so much better!0
